Creative Writing - Post Cards from your Life

A one day workshop:
Why should post cards only be for tourists? We have many moments in our everyday life that are worth reporting on. Using the form of the postcard, we shall capture moments from the present or past to write about moments in our lives that were special and memorable. Through reflecting in our writing, we shall capture the richness in everyday moments.

We shall explore the concept of the postcard and its uses.
We shall discuss the idea of writing about a particular moment in time.
We shall consider how to reflect on a special moment in a short writing piece.
We will do a warm up exercise: we will look at actual postcards of paintings and write a short piece about the scene in the painting.
We will do a writing exercise: write on a postcard about a particularly memorable day from your everyday life. We shall do a number of these exercises and they may include reflecting on a photo from your life if you choose to bring one.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

Write about a fictitious scene from life in a short writing piece.
Write about a special moment from their own life in a reflective way.
View their own life in terms of special moments that are news-worthy.

One day: 10.00 to 4.00 including breaks
The students should bring writing materials and may bring a photo of a special moment in their lives if they wish to write about this.
