Free Kintsugi Workshop

Creating Change - Domestic & Family Violence Prevention

Term 3, Tuesdays in August, 1pm to 3pm.

HKCC is proud to launch a new community initiative funded by Ku-ring-gai Council to support the awareness, prevention and healing from domestic and family violence.

Join us for a creative, art-based program focused on building awareness around domestic and family violence while creating a take home piece in the Japanese Artform of Kintsugi. Meaning “golden joinery,” Kintsugi is the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. Grounded in the wabi-sabi philosophy, it honours breakage as part of an object’s history, celebrating imperfection rather than hiding damage.

Participants will create a take home piece over 4 weeks learning this artform along the way. Additionally, participants will create a figurine which will be displayed alongside the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community College entry to the upcoming Wildflower Garden Sculpture Trail in September/October later this year. The figurines will represent support for all members of the community affected by Domestic and Family Violence and fully funded by the Ku-ring-gai Council Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Grant.

As part of our grant, there are certain eligibility criteria for the program: Participants must over 18 years old and live in the Ku-ring-gai Council area.
